No ice-skating rink available for college students at Johnson & Wales? No problem! The student activities group set up a plastic, snap-together rink and a hot chocolate and latte bar (that was my excuse for not skating, had to make the drinks!) and a lot of fun was had by everyone. Johnson & Wales, based in Providence, RI, is a world-class university where students have an opportunity to pursue a career education in business, hospitality, culinary arts, or technology.

We love doing events that have a good cause attached to them. A very cool gathering to benefit Young Culinary Masters was held at TOUCH in Manhattan last night. The event’s focus was Living and Eating Well with sponsors showcasing nutritious foods and personal care. Great food, fun people, and plenty of Maui Wowi smoothies for all (some made with Purus organic wheat vodka–hey if you’re gonna drink, it may as well be organic!). Organized by Stacey Prince of Eventagious Events, who can only be called a super-event-planner (this much energy in one person you have never seen!).

Comedian Jimmy Fallon from Saturday Night Live and the hit movie “Fever Pitch” showed what happens when you drink a Maui Wowi smoothie. Your shorts becoming Hawaiian!

It’s called “Every Child’s Dream” — an annual fundraising event held at Christmas time to help and support the homeless and needy of Suffolk County. Over 650 kids from the county came to see Santa, have some great food and a Maui Wowi smoothie. My smoothie arm may never be the same! But it was worth it. A special surprise: WWF wresting champion Mick Foley signed autographs for the kids. I’m surprised he can remember his name after some of the stuff he’s been through!

We attend a number of party showcases where people shopping for bar/bat mitzvah and sweet 16 vendors get to see, hear and taste what’s out there. The most recent one was in Westchester at the Rye Town Hilton, sponsored by Celebrate! Showcases of Stamford CT.

Suffolk County Community College in Riverhead had us join them for their Substance Abuse Awareness Week. We made smoothies for students while they simulated driving while impaired by running an obstacle course with distorted goggles.

A big part of the Maui Wowi catering story is home parties–whether tropical theme or not. Here’s a shot from a party we did last night in Westchester. It was a gorgeous event with food from Plum Catering of Cos Cob, CT. We set up our tiki bar and served smoothies to the 100 or so teenagers there, who loved it. We also made our strawberry and pina colada smoothies for rum drinks for the adults. The event featured face painting, pirate actors, a treasure hunt, steel drum player, and inflatable rides. It was an all-out great summer party, and Maui Wowi added the right touch of extra fun.

Here we are at the Westminster School in quaint Simsbury, CT.

The Monroe-Woodbury High School in Central Valley, N.Y., added some Hawaiian style to its prom.

Maui Wowi franchisees do as much as possible for charitable organizations. We were on hand at Mather Hospital’s annual Families Walk for Hope, which raised nearly $200,000 for cancer research. We made about 700 smoothies for a great crowd and a great cause.
